Animals
Old Spots - Luke, my brother, has been raising Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs for several years. The pigs are friendly, intelligent, and delicious. If you're interested in improving your pork, click the link to the farm's page, and contact Luke directly to inquire about the availability of meat and/or piglets.
Belgian Draft Horses - My parents, Phil and Emilie, have been working with horses all their lives and raising Belgians for the past twenty years. My father has been transporting and training horses for ten years. To inquire about training sessions, horse boarding, or transportation, contact Phil.
Poultry - My mother cares for a variety of laying chickens including Rhode Island Reds, Buff Orpingtons, and Plymouth Rocks as well as two ducks.
Assorted Wildlife - We are home to all sorts of native animals here on the farm. We host more deer than we care to. Fresh buds on our young trees are ambrosia for deer and there is nothing worse than seeing a fat deer next to a shredded apple tree. We often talk of harvesting one in the fall, but never seem to. Turkeys are an ever present, and always welcomed guest. There is a trail through our woodlands that the birds like to hike each morning and evening. The path takes them through our lower pasture, through the front yard, across the driveway, through the tree nursery, and through a break in the stone wall to the neighbor's woods abutting our property. For Thanksgiving in 2010, I harvested one of the birds and it was a real treat. Additionally, though the cats keep the population in check, we have plenty of red and gray squirrels, as well as chipmunks who happily plunder their fill of bird seed from our feeders.
